de_boating

(In case the title of this post doesn’t make sense, all Counter-Strike maps use prefixes to determine the mode they are played in. In this case, ‘de’ is short for ‘defusal’ mode)

Planning the Layout

A page of scribbles and notes for a map named "de_boating"

Boating is the first idea that I had, and potentially the one that I will settle on. It is a Wingman map set in a dockyard. The Terrorists have heard that a warhead is being transported off a submarine; they have hidden on an old sailboat to intercept it, and using a IED, explode it early.

In the bottom left of the image I’ve sketched a rough idea of what the map could look like. In this version I hadn’t decided the CTs would be departing from a submarine yet, and I also thought potentially it could be a 5v5 map. However, after reflecting, it will definitely work better as a Wingman map.

A rough layout of how the map could look

In this second image, I’ve created a more accurate layout than the one in the top right of the first image. It features a gangplank that Ts will have to jump off at the start of the round, and a ‘heaven’ on site, accessible by both teams (heaven is a term in tactical shooters to describe an elevated vantage point).

The kinks are definitely not ironed out yet, but it has given me enough of an understanding of what I want to create in order to fill out a statement of intent. Next week, assuming I get the green light, I am going to start testing in the Source 2 engine.
